Hits and misses in Budget 2024 for India’s education sector

The Indian government has allocated INR 1.48 lakh crore (over $17 billion) for education, employment, and skill sectors, aiming to boost reforms in educational infrastructure. This includes e-vouchers for education loans, upgrading ITIs, and providing internships with stipends. The budget also focuses on digital connectivity and technology adoption, which could benefit domestic and international students. However, there are concerns about the adequacy of funding for quality education for all, especially for marginalized students, and the fulfillment of the longstanding demand for spending at least 10% of GDP on education.
